Leon Bridges’ debut album, Coming Home, introduced him as the most soulful songwriter in today’s music industry, and since then he’s gifted us with recordings of that timeless voice and empathic spirit many times over. His new release, ‘Sweeter’, is directly anti-racist. Bridges is joined by Terrace Martin, a veteran of the music industry who has worked with everyone from Kendrick Lamar to Stevie Wonder, and who also shared his experiences of racism on social media and in anti-police-violence song ‘Pig Feet’. On this collaboration, it’s a mellow atmosphere tinged with inherent sadness created by the minimalist electronic beat, gentle piano chords and moving saxophone.
